Just a few short non-refutable reasons why neoconservatives (not paleoconservatives) are wrong.
(1) Spreading democracy in the Middle East.
Nobody asked us to spread democracy; this is tantamount to spreading communism... Stop meddling in others' affairs.
(2) We must "WIN" in Iraq.
No. Some think Germany and Japan
are friendly to the U.S. because we "defeated them". We "lost" in
Vietnam, and it's also one of the safest places in Asia for an
"American".
(3) Mexicans are not Americans
see: Use of the word American Columbus "discovered" the continent of America. Mexico is a country in America. Therefore Mexicans are Americans. Look it up on a dictionary. Using American to refer to the United States is a colloquial contraction.
(4) The Christian Right is moral and principled.
How about Ted Haggart (likes gay sex and hard drugs). Rush Limbaugh
(is addicted to Oxycontin). Pat Robertson (makes money off the Bible
and lying). Republican Mark Foley (can't lay off congressional pages).
Bill O'Reilly see O'Reilly v. Mackris.
(5) Illegal immigrants are taking our jobs
Probably. Stay competitive and it won't happen to you. Conservatives are for the
free-market, so if a fellow "American" wants to hire a foreign worker
the principled thing to do is let him/her.
(6) Mexican immigrants don't pay taxes and live off welfare.
Some. The rest pay taxes like the rest of us; despite never seeing a cent back for Social Security.
(7) If you are not with us, you are with the terrorists. That's a logical fallacy called the Black-or-White Fallacy or a False Dilemma subset called a Disjunctive Syllogism.
(8) Cutting and Running in Iraq is a losing strategy. The terrorists will
come after us. Would you rather fight them here or there?
Fighting civilians in Iraq doesn't keep terrorists from attacking the United States.
(9) There is a war on us "Traditionalists" by the "Secular-Progressives".
They want to destroy Christmas because they hate our Christian
heritage. The only person who says that is Bill O'Reilly and FOX News - He
spoils Christmas for the rest of us with his terrible fabricated and unsupported
anecdotes.
(10) You don't get it because you are not a traditionalist or on the conservative right.
So, the KKK gets it? Extremist Muslims (conservative right) get it?
(11) Iranians don't have the right to capture British soldiers. They were on
Iraqi waters, not Iranian waters. Why aren't you outraged. We don't really know if they were in Iraqi waters or not. So far, the captured soldiers say they had trespassed; so until they are rescued it is a little premature to say otherwise. Last but not least,
they are probably not being tortured, and they are still alive. They are soldiers who trained for this fun adventure stuff. If it were me, I'd take the opportunity to learn Farsi and eat good food.
(12) You don't get it. The war on terror is bigger than all of us. We CANNOT AFFORD TO LOSE!
The war on terror is a social construct. It's a war that was never defined
and therefore can be used politically to achieve any means. We were
attacked by Osama Bin Laden, not Iraq. And to see republicans use the
same terror-mongering tactics as the terrorists is hypocritical. See the
following video. You'd think Al-Qaeda directed it, but it turns out it
was the Republican party. Midterm Election Advertisement.
Terrorism is an act. Everyone terrorizes someone at one point or another. Our own
government terrorizes us with terror alerts. You can't fight terrorism.
Terrorism is in unlimited supply. It's an abstraction.
(13) The Bible clearly says that being gay is an abomination to God. They will suffer for their sins. The Bible also clearly says that eating shellfish is an abomination unto God. Do you eat shellfish? Read Leviticus.
(14) You don't support the troops, that makes you a traitor.
I support the troops, but that doesn't change the fact that they are
getting wasted for the dumbest war and dumbest ideology in centuries.
3000+ soldiers already got turned into blood-soaked hamburger.
Therefore, opposing their deaths hardly makes me a traitor.
(15) Democrats are so deeply invested in failure in Iraq that they cannot allow victory.
In business there is something called a "sunk cost". "Once you realize
you've made a huge mistake, what has been previously invested is NOT an
issue. The issue is what to do in the future to prevent further losses." (poppop_schnell)
In psychology, it is called irrational escalation of commitment. We should just cut our loses. 3000 soldiers is enough waste.
(16) Disagree About Iraq? You're Not Just Wrong -- You're Evil.
Highly recommended read; for both Republicans and Democrats. This is based on legitimate scientific evidence in psychology.
If you want to discuss anything put forth here, don't waste your time quoting FOX News or Bill O'Reilly.
