Last week the San Diego city council prepared a resolution to present a friend of the court brief for the California Supreme Court who is about to hear yet another case about the constitutionality of gay marriage in the State of California. It has been two years since San Francisco mayor Gavin Newsom stood against the state laws regarding gay marriage and allowed gays to have marriage ceremonies performed by judges in San Francisco.
San Diego mayor Jerry Sanders had long been a staunch opponent to gay marriage, and vowed to veto the resolution he was about to be presented with by the city council to submit the brief. However, Sanders in a tear-filled speech on the matter did a dramatic about face and agreed with the city council that gay marriage should be allowed. His reason is because his daughter is a lesbian, and many of his associates and friends are gay or lesbian. He said “In the end, I couldn't look any of them in the face and tell them that their relationships, their very lives, were any less meaningful than the marriage I share with my wife, Rana.”
This brings several issues of concern to the people of the city of San Diego. San Diego has historically been the largest conservative corner of California. Yet the city council and the mayor are using their "hearts" rather than making decisions that the majority of the constituency want them to do. On this issue, the friend of the court brief is supposedly telling the California Supreme Court justices that they speak for the City of San Diego. In fact, they are speaking for themselves and the less than 1% of San Diego who are gay or lesbian. I wonder how many of the remaining 99% feel as I do, that Jerry Sanders and the San Diego City Council most certainly do not represent me in this matter.
About 5000 years ago in the twin cities of Sodom and Gomorrah the Lord came to destroy the city because it was populated with immoral people whose main crime was homosexuality. Abraham tried to dissuade the Lord saying, "What if there are 50 righteous men in the cities? Will you destroy the city for 50 righteous men?" The Lord relented and said "If you can find 50 righteous men in the city, I will not destroy it." Abraham then asked about 40, then 30, then 20, then 10. The Lord could not find even 10 righteous men in that city, but only found Abraham's nephew Lot and his family - one righteous man.
The angels of the Lord stayed with Lot the night they arrived and the homosexual men saw them entering Lot's house. In the night they came as a mob demanding they be brought out so they could have sex with them. The angels told Lot and his family to flee, that Sodom and Gomorrah would be destroyed that very night.
In Romans 5 Paul admonishes us that even if we (Christians) approve of immoral behavior, we are just as guilty as those who practice it.
If the liberals continue to lead the United States into forcing the citizenry to accept and approve of behavior that God has declared to be immoral, how will that fare for our country. I believe this liberal bent to force us (especially the Christians) to accept tolerance for immorality such as gay marriage, abortion, infanticide, fetal stem cell research, and so on is designed by only one motivation - to totally eradicate the peace-loving, love filled message of the Gospel, to crucify over and over our Lord and Savior.
This nation was founded on faith in God. Yet the liberals want us to accept only that which is immoral. Perhaps it will come that the fires of 9-11 were a warning from God that He can allow bigger fires to come and destroy the United States. Our coinage and currency state "In God We Trust", yet the majority of our nation seems to believe we should be tolerant of immoral behavior.
We should not tolerate immorality in any form. We should not hate those who behave in immoral ways, but we should hate what they do. "Love the sinner, hate the sin" our Lord told us.
Christians are being forced more and more every day to accept the immoral, yet when we pray for the immoral we are perceived as forcing our faith on others, and our prayers are considered hatred for the sinner. The liberals live a double standard in this way - they want us to be tolerant of them, yet they cannot tolerate us.
The direction of accepting immorality, I believe, is the greatest threat to our National Security. Pray that the Lord will intervene and change the hearts of the liberals and immoral so that they too may enjoy the peace that only God can give through faith in His Son.
