A few weeks ago, Benizar Bhutto was shot and her [along with a crowd of her supporters] were blown up by a radical Islamist suicide bomber. Some conspiracy theorists blame it on the current Musharraf government. Some complain that she did not have enough security. The latter is a reasonable complaint. But at the same time, Bhutto is used to being in danger with a lack of security. She was a very important ally in the war on radical Islam.
I was watching extensively on the news about the assassination of Benizar Bhutto both on Fox and CNN. Fox has shown past interviews they had with her.
She understood radical Islam was a threat. She said that she spoke to Pakistanis, who told her they were too scared of going to the market and to school cause of the suicide bombers. While not all Muslims are radical Islamists and not all radical Islamists are suicide bombers, all suicide bombers are radical Islamists.
She didn’t use the term radical Islam. She spoke up against it. Barack Obama has said that Pakistan should deal with it’s own affairs. Hilary Clinton said that we should have an international independent investigation. I agree with her about that. Bas I said before, Bhutto’s assassination effects us horribly in the war on terrorism. She wanted to stand up against Al Qaeda and the Taliban, which were two organizations who accused her of being a US agent for wanting stability in Pakistan.
Crowds of supports of her rioted. One Pakistani said that Bhutto deserves a special place in heaven but that their supporters shouldn’t riot.
The Pakistani government first said she was shot. They changed their answer to saying that she died bonking her head in a car. That just doesn't hold water. People don’t die from bonking their head. They get hurt from it.
While the Pakistani government is not happy about the assassination, they want to make her look less heroic. At the same time, they did say she was a martyr killed by terrorists.
Benizar’s Bhutto’s assassination has been condemned around the world. President Bush condemned it. The Israeli foreign minister Tzipi Livin said the following:
"We convey our condolences to the people of Pakistan and to the families of the victims. Benazir Bhutto was a well-known leader in Pakistan and in the international community who demonstrated brave leadership for her people. Israel expresses the hope that Pakistan will continue along the path of reconciliation, moderation and democracy."1
It also shocked the world. The world is asking what happened.
