Archbishop Vs. Coach re Abortion
January 28, 2008 12:00 PM EST

Archbishop Raymond Burke holds that killing womb babies is murder. Therefore, those who profess Christ and His church’s witness should oppose abortion.

That goes for those receiving salary checks from institutions related to the Roman Catholic Church.

In this case, it’s the St. Louis University basketball coach Rick Majerus versus the Archbishop. Majerus makes public that he stands alongside those who slay the unborn. He will not heed the disciplinary call of the Archbishop, no matter what.

Burke has requested that the university “punish” the coach, per AP.

The Bible speaks of a fetus as a person, not simply tissue that can be discarded if found to be a bother or nuisance. Since the fetus is a person from the moment of conception, then the destroying of the fetus is killing a person.

"In the past, some people have mistakenly speculated that perhaps the body might be in the process of formation for some time, and then 'God breathes a soul into it.' They had it backward. The life that is present forms matter into a body for itself' (Joseph Breig, "Life Forms Matter," The Catholic News, Jan. 24, 1974, p. 8).

The Bible is clear on the matter: "Your hands shaped me and made me. Will you now turn and destroy me? Remember that you molded me like clay. Will you now turn me to dust again? Did you not pour me out like milk ... and knit me together with bones and sinews? You gave me life and showed me kindness, and in your providence watched over my spirit" (Job 10:8-12 NIV).

"Before I was born the LORD called me; from my birth he has made mention of my name...and now the LORD says--he who formed me in the womb to be his servant..." (Isaiah 49:1, 5).

"The word of the LORD came to me, saying, ‘Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations’" (Jeremiah 1:4-5).

Majerus was outspoken enough even to deliver his immoral convictions at a Hillary Clinton rally. He proudly let it be known that he is Roman Catholic and at the same time on the side of abortuaries. That fit perfectly into the campaign platform of both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, the latter both endorsing even partial-birth abortion.

“On Tuesday, Burke said that ‘as a Catholic you just cannot hold these beliefs,’ but the Jesuit university hasn't publicly heeded the archbishop's call to take disciplinary action. A university spokesman said ultimate authority lies with the school's Board of Trustees.

“Majerus, meanwhile, told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, ‘My First Amendment right to free speech supersedes anything that the archbishop would order me to do.’"

Is it not sad that one hides behind the First Amendment to broadcast his ethic of slaughtering the defenseless boys and girls in female bodies? Yet that is exactly what is going on in this moral tussle between the Archbishop and the coach.

What will the university Board of Trustees conclude? On which side will they state their convictions?

This is the ongoing battle waged daily as pro-lifers work night and day to protect the precious unborn babies. In a Republic such as America where all are supposed to be free, it is an obvious contradiction that the unborn infants are slain daily in abortuaries from shore to shore.
