Sderot Families Sue Egypt
February 24, 2008 12:00 PM EST

Ten Sderot families sue Egypt for 260 million NIS [new Israeli shekel] for failing to stop rejectionist Palestinian terrorists from firing rockets at Israeli cities including Sderot, where most of the rockets hit. The court where the trial will take place is the Beersheba court. The families who are represented by attorney Nitzana Darshan-Leitner, accuse Egypt of aiding the terrorists. They wrote that the transfer of money, weapons and etc from Egypt means that Egypt is supporting rejectionist terrorists, which started to use Gaza as a base to launch rocket attacks at Israeli cities inclduing Sderot since the disengagement plan in 2005.

While the rocket attacks were there before the disengagement during the second intifada, they increased as a result of Israeli prime minister's Ariel Sharon's disengagement. Sharon became unconscience in 2006. Ehud Olmert is the current prime minister of Israel.

According to the Jerusalem Post, Darshan-Leitner said," The terrorist organizations had smuggled into Gaza hundreds of tons of explosives, tens of thousands of automatic rifles, millions of bullets and other ammunition, hundreds of rockets, including those with a longer range than the rockets produced in the Gaza Strip itself, such as the Grad, which can reach 20 km., rocket-propelled grenades and launchers, hundreds of armor-piercing rockets and dozens of anti-aircraft missiles.''1

Layton told Ynet,""These logistics would not be possible without Egypt's assistance. Egypt is known for fiercely fighting anything (its government) finds unacceptable. These weapons are not made in Gaza and they clearly go through Egypt before getting there. The residents of Sderot and the Gaza vicinity communities are the only ones seriously affected and every one must understand that Mubarak (Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak) is as responsible for the situation as (Hamas chief) Ismail Haniyeh."2

Jonathan, one of the fathers of one of the families suing the Egyptian government for allegedly helping Palestinian terrorists fire rockets into Sderot, told Ynet,""We know Gaza gets its weapons through Egypt. "Israel's requests that they put a stop to it are unanswered, so maybe it's time they pay for it.

We've already lost our daughter and our son is severely traumatized," he said when asked of the suit's monetary value. "We can only hope the money will help to rehabilitate the families who were hurt the most the court has to grant the suit. People have to understand the situation here is impossible."

I would be happy to say Egypt's response to the allegations as well as their side of the story. I couldn't find it. Although even if the Sderot families are wrong, Egypt is still doing a horrible job preventing Palestinian terrorists from smuggling weapons into Gaza to fire them on Israeli cities such as Sderot. The Egyptian government did [and is doing] a bad job stopping them from going into Gaza [this article is not saying weather the Sderot residents are right about Egypt or not]. As I said before, the Palestinian terrorists who are firing rockets into Israel are rejectionist. Their aim is not simply to end the Israeli occupation. Their aim is the destruction of Israel. That's why they call for the right of return, which demographically destroys Israel. That's why they oppose resettlement. Even though the poverty is not the root cause of Palestinian terrorism, they exploit the suffering and poverty of Palestinian refugees and use it to recruit more terrorists. The root cause is the widespread anti-Semitic incitement that makes Palestinian terrorists seem heroic, that calls for the destruction of Israel and all Jews and makes those two things seem like Islamic duties. After all, not all poor and/or oppressed people become terrorists and commit terrorist attacks on the innocent civilians in the nation oppressing them. Oppression can cause terrorism. In the case of Palestine and Israel, even though there are different facts that contribute to Palestinian terrorism, the main cause is the widespread anti-Semitic incitement. You can see he incitement. Watchdog groups like the Middle East Media Research Institute [MEMRI] and Palestinian Media Watch [PMW] find the widespread incitement and documents it.
