Teacher Must Remove Bible from Desk?
April 20, 2008 10:00 AM EST

Mount Vernon Ohio Middle School science teacher John Freshwater will not remove the Bible from atop his desk.

He’ll take opposing school superintendent and principal to court first.

Believers rallied around his conviction in a public meeting.

“The removal of it will be nothing short of the infringement on my deeply held religious beliefs,” he said.

The superintendent claims he has to stand up for protecting students against furtherance of religion. So goes the country. No wonder the American school system is overseen by police in hallways and students cursing teachers.

I worked in the public school system. I know what it is today. I have had students swear all day long, throw desks and break windows. Police cruisers were common occurrence in front of the building.

I was informed when hired that I had better never speak the “G” word or my job would be on the line. The “G” word of course was “God.”

I was on staff at the Regional Educational Alternative Learning (REAL) School in South Windham, Maine. It was real, all right, but its reality was in the dark direction.

“Discrimination against religions and religious views is un-American,” Freshwater said in a statement. “In a land where we treasure free speech rights, no force or forces have the right to expel from the public forum those who have views with which they disagree. It is what has made America free.”

The school principal and superintendent, both non-God fearing, are after the teacher’s job. He will not leave the classroom before taking the twosome to court.
