The Democrats, now that they are back in charge, are gleefully governing from the far left, and the Republicans haven't learned their lesson. So it seems no matter who wins the election this November we're looking at the same group of porkers running the congress and controlling the purse.
More intent on getting reelected than on solving any serious issue America faces, they act as if they are entitled to their office for life and will cast any vote, make any promise to hold onto it. I don't know what's worse, that Congress doesn't have the willpower or the competence to take on the big issues, or that the American people look to Congress to take on the big issues.
Rather than exercise fiscal discipline(something the Democrats with the New Deal, and something the Republicans forgot all about when they became more concerned with keeping their jobs rather than doing their jobs) they waste money on ethanol, a bloated farm bill(to buy sugar to sell to ethanol makers, all subsidized by the taxpayers). Do we get a real energy policy that will actually matter? No. We get the typical environmental mumbo jumbo about cutting green house gases and using safe energy. The thing is that they are opposed to that as well. Nuclear energy is clean, cheap, and could supply much of the energy demands of this country. Too bad Congress won't let us go near it.
They even protest wind energy. They are trying to build more windmills in my home state, all to provide clean wind power. Who could be against that? Well, the green mob is. Apparently a few bats may get killed. So, in order to get this straight, we're not allowed to have fossil fuels for energy because it pollutes, and we can't have environmentally friendly energy because the hippy moon bats are against it. Everyone follow that?
We could drill offshore, in Alaska, or liquify coal to meet our energy demands. Instead the corn lobby and the environmental screwballs give us all ethanol, all the time.
Of course, energy is not the only area where the Congress has failed to do it's job. The Democrats are constantly harping about how the Republicans in general, and President Bush especially, ruin American foreign relations. So what has Congress done to make friends with the world. They tell Colombia, a staunch American ally, to go pound sand. I guess obeying the whims of their labor union paymasters is more important than helping an democratic American ally being besieged by Chavez and his authortarianism.(apparently cozying up to dictators is something Democrats just can't stop doing. The Democrats love affair with Castro, their sucking up to Chavez, Carter meeting and serenading Hamas, and Obama promising to negotiate with Iranian terror masters)
Of course we have the scandals. Congressmen hitting on pages, problems with mens restrooms in airports, hiding cash in the freezer, Congressmen having second families. Political corruption is nothing new of course, but every once in awhile it's good to clean house.
The more Congress behaves like this the more they make the case for term limits. Let's hope that lot's of Congressmen, in both parties, have to go out and get real jobs come November.
