NJ Parents Fighting Government Education Establishment
August 04, 2008 03:21 PM EST

Voters in New Jersey's District 8 need to know that this district is a battleground for real change. Congressional Candidate Roland Straten outspokenly supports the Civil Rights Act for Equal Educational Opportunity. This would require the states to provide equitable funding for children in both public and non-public schools, while respecting the liberty of schools in hiring and provision of services. Incumbent Congressman Bill Pascrell is opposed.

The late Milton Friedman, a leading economist, proposed applying the principle of free enterprise to education by the use of vouchers that parents may remit at the school of their choice. In 2002 the United States Supreme Court declared vouchers constitutional. Incredibly, in the 53 years since Friedman wrote The Role of Government in Education, legislation requiring universal school choice has never been debated in the national arena.

While the present Congress may not support this legislation, the 8th District can change this. By rallying behind the candidate who will fight for parental choice, voters can send a message that will be heard in all 435 Congressional Districts.

Please allow the debate begin by inviting the candidates to argue their case before the voters.
